Turkstream Begins Deliveries to Hungary, Croatia

Gazprom began deliveries of Russian natural gas to Croatia and Hungary via the Turkstream Pipeline on October 1st, 2021.

Transmission is made possible via use of the natural gas networks of Bulgaria and Serbia (Bulgartransgaz EAD and Gastrans d.o.o., Novi Sad, respectively).

The delivery of natural gas to Hungary via the Turkstream system has attracted some controversy, especially in Ukraine, given the fact that it completely bypasses the Ukrainian energy network, thereby depriving Kiev of transit revenues.

Now that all of the required compressor stations are online in Bulgaria and Serbia, Turkstream’s total capacity to provide natural gas to Turkey and southeastern Europe is estimated to be some 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas per annum.
