Bosnian Military Receives US Huey Helicopters

The United States donated four Bell UH II (“Huey”) Light Utility helicopters to the Armed Forces of Bosnia & Herzegovina (AFBiH) the first week of December 2021. The four helicopters are worth approximately US$ 38 million, and were donated courtesy of the United States’ Foreign Military Financing and Foreign Military Sales programs.  

The Huey fleet will be based at Rajlovac airbase near Sarajevo. The Huey Light Utility helicopter was designed for performing air transport, firefighting, medical evacuation, search-and-rescue missions. 

The Armed Forces of Bosnia & Herzegovina has 42 helicopters in its fleet, of which thirty-five are outdated Soviet-era Mi-8’s scheduled for retirement.
